Blood is a specialized body fluid (tissue) that contains plasma and blood cells. The three types of blood cells are erythrocytes (red blood cells), leukocytes (white blood cells) and thrombocytes (platelets). The main function of the blood is to carry oxygen and supply nutrients such as glucose, amino acids and fatty acids to all the tissue and organs of the body.
