Therapeutic Angiogenesis

Angiogenesis is a fundamental physiologic process involving the budding of new blood vessels from pre-existing vessels. It is a normal process for development and growth in the healthy body, for healing wounds and for restoring blood flow to tissues after injury or insult. However, in many serious disease states the process of angiogenesis is impaired, which results in complications such as ischemia (insufficient of blood supply), and/or delayed wound healing. Therapeutic angiogenesis is the process of using a drug or biologic agent to induce the creation of new blood vessels in injured tissue to reestablish normal blood flow.

Arteriocyte, an expert in therapeutic angiogenesis, is pursuing cell-based therapeutics and tissue engineering products for the treatment of ischemia and other disease conditions.
